Tour de France extends partnership with VeloNews through 2009

For immediate release
February 16, 2007 Paris, France — The organizers of the Tour de France, Paris-based Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), have again chosen VeloNews to be their North American media partner, extending an existing publishing agreement through 2009. The 2007 edition of The Official Guide to the Tour de France will mark the seventh consecutive year that VeloNews has produced this key marketing tool for the biggest annual sporting event in the world.

The decision to extend the coveted agreement with the Tour for three more years came despite heavy competition from other American publishers. In the end, the depth of experience of the VeloNews editorial and sales teams, coupled with the unparalleled reach of the Official Guide to targeted markets, made VeloNews the logical choice for renewal. “VeloNews is the definitive North American voice for competitive cycling,” said Tour de France race director Christian Prudhomme.

“Our decision to renew our agreement was based on the solid history we have working with the VeloNews staff and the exceptional quality of the products they produce. With is roots in racing and collection of editorial leaders, VeloNews is again the best choice to represent The Tour de France brand.”

The Official Guide has steadily grown in size, advertising pages and distribution since its first edition in 2000.

Once a mere supplement to the magazine, the Guide is now a heavy-weight, 196pp, perfect-bound souvenir that is the best selling issue of the year for VeloNews. The 2007 Official Guide to the Tour de France, which will reach newsstands in June, will once again showcase the stages, teams, history, racers and strategies of this incomparable race.

“It’s an honor to produce The Official Guide to the Tour de France”, said Ted Costantino, VeloNews Vice President of Editorial and Production. “We’re proud to deliver what will be a must-have race companion to tens of thousands of VeloNews readers and cycling fans across North America.”
